My husband has a day off today so we went to the city of Utrecht for a while. We have not been there in 3 or 4 years. I was disappointed to see a number of the shops I loved going to were no longer there. Fortunately, there are two great shops that still exist. I first went to a shop where they sell only trimmings and tassles. I found some great glass head pins and trims for future pinkeeps. I then went to a very old needlework shop where I bought two small cuts of Jobelan fabric and charms (stock scissors, 3 snowflakes and 3 stars). We did not really want to go in any of the many clothes and shoe stores so we had an Italian sandwich by the canal and then coffee and a pastry in a shop before heading back home.

What a lovely day out plus some very useful additions to your stash collections.
I remember years ago, when I was about 14, there was a very old Jewish lady who had a trimming shop in a small street near my auntie's house. My auntie was a seamstress by trade so she often took me and my cousin there. It was like an Aladdin's cave crammed from floor to ceiling. One weekend, the shop was set on fire and it was totally burnt out. We learned later that she had had no insurance for it so it remained blackened and boarded up with wooden panels and metal grids but, several months later, she reappeared and put two trestle like tables on the pavement outside and covered them with trimmings, they were hanging from the grids, in baskets on the ground and piled high on the tables. She was there for several years. I used to buy ribbons and broderie anglaise edging from her. When she told me she was closing, I bought a lot of things and she gave me a lot too. Now somewhere I have a bag full of things from her. You know I haven't thought about this for years! I wonder where that bag is?
Heidi, I love your Christmas Stars quilt and the new stash you purchased. Your blogs are always so inspiring to me. I wish I has your so many talents.
Sounds like a lovely day out. :) Love your trims and things.
Really great stash, Heidi, and it sounds as if the day was heavenly.
Your new stash is beautiful Heidi. I love the little stork scissors, and the trims are exquisite!
