Our stitching get~together ~ part two

The day the ladies arrived, we drove home and had a simple lunch after exchanging some gifts. We then went to the center of Amersfoort for a trip on the canals. I find our city looks so different when seen from the water level.

We followed a tradition that we have had for years whenever my mother arrives in Holland. Our first night, we got out to the local pancake farm to eat Dutch pancakes. These are similar to crepes only a little larger. They are ordered with your choice of toppings which can be sweet or savoury.

It was so obvious that we have all been emailing for a number of years as we all seemed to really know each other already.

The second day and we drove to the villages of Bunschoten/Spakenburg. These flowers were just outside the museum we visited.

The museum is set up to look as though you are walking through a street in the village and able to peek into the windows of houses and shops. Click on any of the photos to enlarge them and see more details.

That evening we returned home and my quilt group came over to host a Dutch evening and show and tell for the visitors. Each person brought a typical dish or dessert for dinner. A couple of the members of the group explained what each dish was before we started our buffet dinner. After dinner, we shared a number of the quilts done over the years for our quilt themes and classes.

I want to thank all the ladies in the quilt group for making it such a memorable evening!

More wonderful photos! Can you hear my heavy sighs?!! I love all the needlework on the walls and the fireplace with all the ships and the ship tiles. And, I don't think it matters what level you are at when looking at your city because it's truly beautiful! So nice to see all of you at the table together.

I have lots of pictures from that museum too. Guess I need to get busy blogging. The water trip also. Yum, Yum, Yum pancakes.
Love you, Mom

Lovely photos. We have crepes in Brittany, but not so big as yours. They can be savoury or sweet. Maybe you will try them on your visit to France!

Heidi, I have just looked at all your photos again and again and could easily feel and see the pleasure and joy you all were having at the get-together. Thanks for showing all the wonderful pictures.

We have the same sort of pancakes here and both my sons love them very much. And that buffet of Dutch treats - just makes my mouth water, lol.

As always your pictures tell so much of the story. It was fun to see what you all did when you were able to get together. Those pancakes looked divine!!!

I hope you don't mind, but I've tagged you for a short meme. You can find the information on my blog. No pressure to join in, but I'd love to see some of your answers.

I have recently discovered your blog and what a joy. I love the gifts made for your friends and also the quilts. I have just finished my first quilt, a long journey but a wonderful end. I admire your fobs and would love to make them as gifts for my crafting friends, but haven't a clue how to make them. Would it be possible for you to give instructions?

Oh, I loved the pictures and to get a little view of life in the Netherlands. I'm Dutch myself and my ancestors came from The Netherlands and I wish that I could visit and see all the sights. Maybe someday!

The pancakes are hugh! i can't imagine eating one that big but they look lucious.

Wow! I'm just drooling here over those pancakes. How would it be possible to choose between the sweet and the savoury? They are so BIG.
The pictures of the museum are wonderful. I just wish I could get up close to the samplers on the wall to examine everything in minute detail.
Love all the figures in the national dress.
