A thread box

So often I see something in a shop and instantly imagine what it will become when I start working on it. This happened one afternoon when I went to a little discount shop to buy my shampoo I use. I saw this box and opened it.

When I saw the inside, an idea I had was confirmed and I knew I had to buy it to start on a gift for a friend.

So I measured out the raised space on the top of the box and worked on a design that would fit just right. When finished, I mounted the stitched piece.

I then attached it to the wooden box to create a thread box for Diane. I finished off the edge with a piece of trim. This sweet little box has a removable tray and little places to hold special threads. I enjoyed trying to turn this box into something just that little bit special.

Wow! That is a lovely piece of engineering!
I'm pretty good at the stitching, but not so good at the retro-fitting!

I got to see a preview of this and it is really beautiful. Only you could look at this plain box and make something great out of it. I know Diane will love it. You should have bought all they had.
Very nice.

You found that in a little discount store?.......that's it, I'm moving to the Netherlands!! My discount stores just seem to have old chocolate bars and skimpy washcloths on offer!
That is a lovely gift, Heidi, and the best thing is that it came from your ideas, your work and your heart.

Your pics look better than mine, but I can look at it anytime I want AND as I put it right next to me and my stitching and am happier than a pig in slop!! Ok, not such a pretty picture, but I am the blessed recipient of this gift and as one of your commenters said, it is from "your ideas, your work, and your heart" There could be no better gift. You know I will treasure it always!!!

Wow Heidi,
What a pretty box and so useful too. I love the way you have personalised it with that pretty stitching specially for Diane.

I think it's always such a treat having things with your name stitched on. Future generations will look at this little box of threads and notions and say, This was great great great great grandma Diane's stitching box :>)
Warm hugs Angela

BEAUTIFUL! You are a creative person; I would never have thought of this - I make things, but when my Mom was alive, she had the same kind of creative gift as you - she would tell me what to make, and then I would do it. God has blessed you not only with skills, but especially with the gift of creativity. In Nomine Domini, Adrienne

Heidi: I feel like I already know you bz of your mom's blog! She's such a sweet, sweet lady! Thanks for stopping by my new sewing blog. Yes, I always buy my binding fabric when I buy the fabric for the quilt. I usually don't make it though until the quilt is at the quilter's. I hated binding until I took a class and learned this technique. Now I don't mind it at all. When something comes back from the quilter I'll do a tutorial on how to put it on. I'm so excited to look through your blog. I absolutely adore this thread box! You made it absolutely beautiful. I look forward to getting to know you better! Cindy
