Yesterday my mother arrived for a month long visit and I was able to give her the birthday present I made for her. One item was a vintage (1940s) knitting book which she loved. This is the second gift...
This chart was called 'The Gossips'. It is a chart from a bobbin lacemakers series. Click on the photo to enlarge it. I framed the piece and then added two vintage bobbins tied with vintage lace to the frame. Fun that we two are also the gossips as we catch up with everything while she is here.

Gone sewin', not fishin'
I love trying to create new things in the house using what I already have at hand. While working on our guest room, we found our old bolster pillows under the bed. They are covered in an aubergine India cotton from my old roman blinds I made when we moved into this house. Those blinds have been remade now in a cream color as the aubergine has long faded in the sun.
I decided this afternoon, in the mode of clearing out my stash to work on a new sewing project and recover these bolsters. I had saved the bottom of my curtains I hemmed for Cranberry Cottage. I knew they could come in handy even if I simply used them to make placemats or tablerunners. They have been sitting around for so long that I almost considered throwing them away while cleaning out my quilt studio. I wanted these bolsters to be very neutral so I can use them in either bedroom. I set to work with the curtain fabric and was done in just an hour.
I then looked around in the quilt studio to see how I could make them look a little jazzed up and found this lace ribbon that my mother had sent me also a couple of years ago. Perfect! And just enough to do the two pillows.

Spring cleaning give~away
It is spring cleaning time and I have the fabric cupboard to go through. We had to empty it and move it to a new spot so I can put an antique armoire where it had been which will stay open to display all my quilts.
While going through this closet, I decided it would be fun to hold a spring cleaning stash give~away. Simply leave a comment on this post and you will be entered for either a quilting or stitching gift. Please specify which you would like or both. Since there are two prizes, if you tell me both, you will have two chances at a prize.
Good luck! I will draw the two winners names on Tuesday, April 8th.
